From 1998 to 2008, I directed devised experimental theater. Critics referred to my company, Temescal Labs, as “one of the most original and exciting” groups in the Bay Area. My projects—highly conceptual, trafficking in pointed institutional critique—predicted a transition into art.  The skills I sharpened in my years creating experimental theater and social practice continue to enrich my current art and teaching practices.
