Endurance Performance Proposition #6: The Loom

As long as there has been capitalism in America, there has been resistance to capitalism, in the form of homegrown attempts at communism, socialism, union organizing, and strikes and fights for workers’ rights. These movements are a key part of our history. Unfortunately, as Howard Zinn wrote about in his People’s History of the United States, they have been polished out of our public memory.

In “The Loom,” we attempt to put some of this history back into our somatic and spiritual consciousness, by using our bodies to re-create the movement of an industrial loom, acting as the warps and wefts, and re-enacting labor by becoming machines of mass production.
